Offsetting: The Good, the Bad, and the Needed

This session will examine the current initiatives proposed by the Federal Government, Green Building Council of Australia and others, in light of the recent commitments made at COP15. The panelists will explore the proposed Biodiversity Certificates and Nature-Based Solutions for offsetting and how they align with national and industry targets. They will also discuss how these initiatives aim to avoid the pitfalls of previous schemes and ensure meaningful benefits for nature, while effectively offsetting unavoidable impacts. Attendees will gain insights into the proposed new regulations and their engagement with the building and construction sectors, as well as the architecture and design community's role in achieving nature-positive outcomes.
